Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is the fourth installment in Disney’s Pirates franchise. “It includes, but not limited to” as Jack Sparrow once said, “Zombies, Mermaids, and the notorious pirate Blackbeard”, and a ‘supposed’ daughter Angelica.

The movie stars Johnny Depp, reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. The film also brings back, two personal favorites of mine, Gibbs and Barbossa. Apparently, though, it’s “out with the old and in with the new” because Will and Elizabeth Turner are now gone, which makes room for Philip (played by new comer Sam Claflin) and Syrena (a mermaid played by Astrid Berges-Frisbey).

The movie, once again, is about Captain Jack Sparrow on a quest for fame, glory… and, here is the kicker, youth. Jack is after the Fountain of Youth. Not entirely on his own, he is accompanied by Blackbeard and his long lost daughter Angelica (played by Penelope Cruz) which happens to be Jack’s long lost love as well. So with the love story of Jack and Angelica, and the love story of Philip and Syrena… unfortunately the movie gets pretty crowded. But with that in mind it still could be very easily one of the best summer movies of the year. I mean come on…you can’t really screw up when you have Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush (fresh from an Oscar win) in the same film.

The film is full of twits and turns and will shock you on several accounts. The film welcome’s new director Rob Marshall, of which he takes a much more, “choreographed approach to it” as he has said in many interviews. The movie is very fun, not as good as the first movie I reviewed (Limitless), but still a pretty decent film.

Rise Against: Endgame

Rise Against for those of you who do not know a bad who truly stand up for what they believe in. for instance they are active members of PETA and are all vegans. The Band plays music in hopes they will reach out to the world. Every song has a meaning for them their hit “Ready to Fall” really spoke about their views on animal cruelty. On March 15 their latest album Endgame was released and what an album! The Album begins with the two singles on the album “Architect” and “Help is on the way” both of which present the Rise Against that any fans knows of the nice riffs on the guitars and the catchy choruses. After we get through listening to those songs forty or fifty times we head right on into the crying children of “Make it stop (September’s Children)” I must say I really have listened to the first two tracks of the album so many times it was hard to listen through it again when I got the album but when I hit track three I was literally hooked on this track after merely one second plays. The entire track is powerful. In this track you will hear Rise Against calling out to the world saying make this suffering end for these children. They tell us to stand with them to help make it stop, and near the end of the track you can hear Tim McIlrath give the names of some of the suffering children. This I must say is easily the most powerful song on the album. Another good Song is “Satellite” the songs will start you off in a nice paced slow guitar then it just takes you off to a very catchy up-tempo Chorus that may even make you want to sing along, but again we see that rise against message. Next we have “Survivor Guilt” This song is mad with power. Right from the beginning Rise Against adds a Catch-22 Skit to their song claiming how much longer does America have to last. Then it heads into the song which is an anti-war song. And what a job they do with it to the sped up riff at the end to the “River like” Guitar interludes. This song really has everything Rise Against is known for this song; I feel closely resembles “Chamber of Cartridge.” The rest of the album is awesome and definitely worth the while to listen to especially if you like activism in music The album itself is a work of art and lives up to what people want to see in rise against. Their album wasn’t their strongest album and it did worry me when I heard that this album was coming out. But then I listened to it and it took my ears away. However I do not think it was their best. While I do think the album was great it does not compare to “The Sufferer and the Witness” But it is overall a great album. So let me break it down now. The lyrics are great and the riffs are good as well. The vocals of Rise Against will never let you down and above all it’s a very powerful piece of work. However it certainly doesn’t live up to its predecessor “The sufferer and the Witness” but definitely worth buying. Ri se Against “Endgame” gets my score of 8.5 out of 10.

Airplanes, Lupe Fiasco Version

Hey! It's A.J.M. with an interesting track for you to hear. I'm sure most of you have heard Airplanes by B.O.B. ft. Hayley Williams, and if you have not... you better check it out! You definitely will want to before you hear the latest version of it with Lupe Fiasco on the track instead of B.O.B.. Don't just take my word for it... I have pasted the link for the song here: http://djblackbillgates.com/2011/04/07/audio-lupe-fiasco-ft-hayley-williams-airplanes-original-version/

I personally think it is good, but B.O.B. just has a certain feel of magic, no pun intended, to it.
